Groffen Bakery
At this bakery, you can try a ‘Bergse Bastaert’ – a richly filled, sumptuous and flavourful tart named after Jan II van Glymes (Lord of Bergen op Zoom – 1417–1494), who turned out to have many illegitimate children. On a butter biscuit base, covered with a layer of almond paste, lies a light, coarse sponge, generously filled with dried fruit, nuts and spices. This is topped with a thin layer of soft buttercream, coated in icing.
