The whole area of the Wouwse Plantage is about 900 hectares and lies on a sand ridge formed about 20,000 years ago. Wouwse Plantage has a rich history and there have been various owners over the centuries. The estate has now grown into a beautiful nature reserve with different forest types. For some animals such as the woodpecker, nightjar, black woodpecker and woodlark, the area is among the most important breeding areas in the Netherlands.

Along high hedges of rhododendrons you walk towards the Woeste Gedeelte, passing hills that rise up to twenty metres above sea level. One of these hills is said to be a prehistoric burial mound.

Various events take place at Wouwse Plantage every year; more information is available from VVV Roosendaal or check out the VVV Roosendaal website.
