Fort de Roovere in Halsteren is increasingly developing into the centre of the West Brabant Waterline. This is due in no small part to the Mozesbrug, whose edge is level with the water in the moat. You can wade through this, as Moses did through the Red Sea. Next to this remarkable access bridge, Pompejus towers house-high above the fortress. From this gigantic watchtower you can overlook the entire West Brabantse Waterlinie. At the same time, it is an open-air theatre and exhibition space. Pompejus came about through the combined efforts of residents, organisations and the municipality of Bergen op Zoom. They also worked on the realisation of a poterne (tunnel), taking you back in time, so to speak. Fort de Roovere also lends itself perfectly to a wide range of cultural and sporting events.
