Brabantse Wal
The region takes its name, De Brabantse Wal, from the sandy plateau that, in the extreme west of the province of North Brabant, extends from the Belgian border in the south to Steenbergen in the north and to Wouwse Plantage in the east. The area stands out for its wide variety of landscapes. The transitions from clay to sand, from forest to heath and from dry to wet make it a unique area. Special is the natural difference in height; the steep edge appears in the landscape on the border with Belgium below Ossendrecht, climbs to +20 m NAP near Hoogerheide and Woensdrecht, gets lower near Bergen op Zoom and Halsteren and disappears into the subsoil near the Kladde(Steenbergen). The wide variety of landscape types provides the Brabantse Wal with a habitat for different types of plants and animals.
