The guides of Stadsgidsen Bergen op Zoom will show you the way and know everything about the Sint Gertrudiskerk.
The Peperbus got its current shape in the years 1750-1752. In those years, the church was rebuilt as a result of the shelling of the city by the French in 1747. The shelling and siege by the French lead to the fall of the Bergen op Zoom fortress. The fortress of Bergen op Zoom, designed by Menno van Coehoorn, was previously considered impregnable. It was nicknamed La Pucelle.
