Blauwe Sluis en Bovensas
Blauwe Sluis (with Bovensas) lies at the triple junction of three watercourses: the Steenbergsche Vliet, Roosendaalse Vliet and the Kleine Aa. It owes its name to blue stone, a new and durable building material that was not widely used at the time the lock was built. When the stone got wet, it turned dark blue.
It had an important function in the inundation (=+/- 50 cm flooding) of parts of the West Brabant Water Line. Over a 200-year period, the area was flooded for a total of 50 years. The inundation sluice at the Blauwe Sluis ensured the supply of (salt) flood water from the Steenbergsche Vliet to the inundation plain of the Cruijslandse Kreken. There was also a lock in later times and the lock complex dates from 1822.

The island around this lock has been transformed into a resting point and equipped with a multifunctional viewpoint that also serves as a canoeing and fishing jetty and picnic bench. In addition, a passage under the Beatrix Lock has been created for canoeists to pass from the Cruyslandse Kreken to Bovensas. For a snack and a drink, visit Bar aan de Baak.
After the Mozesbrug and Pompejustoren on Fort de Roovere in Halsteren, the bridge on the Ravelijn in Bergen op Zoom, the bird hide at the Roode Weel, Fort Henricus in Steenbergen and the Bunkertreppe in De Heen, this is a creation by Ro&Ad Architects on the Brabantse Wal. This has created a unity among the West Brabant Waterline objects.
