Oorlogsmonument De Klok
The Oorlogsmonument De Klok was erected to commemorate the liberation of Welberg and Steenbergen in late October/early November 1944. The Canadian liberators encountered unexpectedly fierce resistance from the Germans. There were over 100 casualties in total. The monument is located on Canadezenweg, a tribute to the liberators. Every year the bell is rung on 4 May, preceding the national Remembrance Day, and on the first Sunday in November. Then, at the bell, the victims of 'the Battle of Welberg', the last major battle of the 'Battle of the Scheldt', are commemorated. In Hoogstraat and Kapelaan Kockstraat there are two listening columns of the Liberation Route Europe that tell about the war years in Welberg.
