Built in the 15th century, het Markiezenhof was the residential palace of the lords and marquises of Bergen op Zoom. As the oldest City Palace in the Netherlands, het Markiezenhof is one of the four official Top Monuments of Brabant (alongside the Sint Janskathedraal in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Grote Kerk in Breda and Kasteel Heeswijk), and a must-visit for anyone with an interest in heritage and history. With temporary exhibitions and surprising activities such as birds of prey shows, lectures, guided tours, treasure hunts and court concerts, the museum impresses visitors from home and abroad: "What a surprising museum. "In a word: magnificent!"
Besides a museum about the history of Bergen op Zoom and surrounding region, het Markiezenhof also houses the Funfair Museum: great fun for children, too! In addition, all facilities for a successful business event are available - suitable for smaller groups as well as meetings with hundreds of guests - and it is also possible to get married in this special building. Bride Annette expressed her experience as follows: "Great location to get married and take photos. Staff were very friendly and very patient with this nervous bride."

Bergen op Zoom
Het Markiezenhof is the pearl of Bergen op Zoom: a city with more than 800 monuments, which together tell the story of a rich and eventful past. De Gevangenpoort is the city's only surviving medieval city gate, with Escape the Gate at the bottom: an escaperoom with walls one and a half metres thick. Around the Grote Markt you'll find the Sint Gertudiskerk (with church tower the Peperbus), Theater De Maagd and the monumental City Hall. Experience the vast amount of monuments for yourself when visiting Bergen op Zoom. The compact city centre, where you can almost literally taste art, culture and history in medieval streets and squares.
