Excursion Oudland
IVN Brabantse Wal is organising an excursion to the Oudland nature reserve near Steenbergen. This area has an eventful history. Many a drop of sweat was shed here in a past characterised by peat cutting, selnering (excavating peat to extract salt) and other activities common at the time. Traces of this past are still visible. There were also two estates here: Padmos and Eikelenburg.
The Oudland nature reserve is situated on the so-called ‘Naad van Brabant’. Guide Jos van Loon will explain what this means. Autumn hasn’t really begun yet, and we’ll be looking at what this means for nature. Mushrooms are a feature of this season, but whether there are many depends very much on the weather. The area is managed by two nature conservation organisations: Staatsbosbeheer and Brabants Landschap.
