At the start of winter, all sorts of birds appear in our country that have spent the summer in the Far North. In October, you can already spot the first ones: robins, for example, which suddenly turn up everywhere in our gardens and start singing their hearts out. As November progresses, many waterbirds join them: geese of all kinds, unusual species of swan and duck-like birds that we do not see in spring and summer. Many of these winter waterbirds head for the waters of Bergen op Zoom . They can be found, for example, on the Zoommeer, the Bergse Diep, the Schelde-Rijnkanaal and de Binnenschelde. During the day, the geese graze on the Molenplaat and the Princesseplaat. And this, in turn, sometimes attracts large birds of prey, such as white-tailed eagles and peregrine falcons.

As well as waterbirds, we also expect to see migratory songbirds, such as thrushes and finches. They search the Molenplaat for berry-bearing shrubs and seed-bearing weeds.
