Zoomland estate has a centuries-long history, in which peat extraction, hunting, estates, horticulture and cattle breeding played an important role. Remains are still visible in several places, including parts of a former estate.

In the woods and on the heaths live deer, foxes, hares, rabbits, voles and the viviparous lizard. Traces of these animals can be found scattered across the area. The old beech and oak trees offer shelter to species such as the pine marten, squirrel, woodpecker, buzzard and several owls. Numerous insect species live on the trunks of these trees, which in turn provide a food source for birds such as the woodpecker. The alternation of dry and wet areas provides a great diversity of trees, mosses and wild plants. Around the pools and fens you will find frogs, toads, salamanders and dragonflies, among others.
