‘Bannink, Brecht and Bach’ is a musical journey through longing, melancholy and a zest for life. From wintry solitude to sultry summer delight, from intimate sorrow to exuberant sing-alongs. The Kofferbak Collectief brings together a procession of venerable Old Masters such as Schubert, Bach, Ravel and Weill alongside one grand master of Dutch entertainment: Harry Bannink. And then you can’t help but wonder: wasn’t the greatest song composer of all time actually from Enschede? Five years ago, the Kofferbak Collectief’s adventure began with pop-up operas: cheerful, accessible performances based on classical masterpieces. What began as a quirky idea grew into a unique signature style: top-class music, sung in Dutch, with a single accordion serving as an entire orchestra. The Kofferbakkers have already tackled greats such as Bach and Mozart, proving that classical music is anything but stuffy. Their flesh-and-blood versions are moving and full of life. Opera arias that move you just as directly as a cabaret song. Centuries-old music that grabs you and sweeps you away like the latest pop hit. The boundary between ‘high art’ and pure entertainment turns out to be surprisingly and pleasantly blurred. The Kofferbak Collectief creates intimate, mobile musical theatre. Our performances are both high-quality and accessible. It all starts with rock-solid music, sung in Dutch. On this foundation, they build theatrical mini-spectacles that unfold, both literally and figuratively, in today’s world.
