BEHIND THE WALL, the large-scale new dance performance and latest choreography by Conny Janssen, raises topical questions about identity, connection and loss. Accompanied by live music from the groundbreaking artist Roufaida, a compelling journey unfolds exploring what it means to be at home somewhere — and what happens when that home changes or disappears.

This new performance builds on the universe of Conny Janssen’s previous production HOME (2017/2021), which centred on the question of where and with whom we feel at home. HOME was set in a large, white, anonymous space and ended with an enigmatic image: after all the dancers had left the space, a single dancer remained. She wandered lost through the space and eventually disappeared through a tall opening in the set. The audience was left behind, gazing at the empty white space.

In *BEHIND THE WALL*, we see the dancers finding their way in a world where memories, loss and hope are constantly intertwined. What happens to them? What do you take with you from the past when you have to start afresh? Where are you allowed to feel at home? And how do you stay connected to where you come from?

The diverse and adventurous dance ensemble of Conny Janssen Danst brings this quest to life with an intensity that is both moving and confrontational. With her distinctive choreographic style — a powerful blend of raw energy and tranquil poetry — Conny Janssen creates a universe in which personal stories and universal questions intersect.

The live music by the Dutch-Moroccan artist Roufaida forms the beating heart of the performance. Her multi-layered sound, which blends North African influences, alternative pop and poetic lyrics, deepens the themes and enhances the emotional power of the dance.
